Responsibilities

Reporting to the Chair, Ethics Committee for Animal Care and Use (ECACU) and Associate Vice Provost, Office of Reserach and Graduate Studies. The incumbent will work in a part time-capacity on a contract basis. The veterinarian will be involved in ensuring maintenance of health of laboratory animals and assuring safety of personnel handling the animals. The incimbant will also be responsible for:

• supervising breeding, maintaining, transfering, disposal and research use of animals, and environmental requirements; 
• developing relevant policies and procedures; 
• performing periodic health screening and investigate disease outbreaks; 
• monitoring animal health- and safety-related activities;
• reviewing animal research proposals and overseeing execution of research projects involving animals;
• collecting, analyzing, presenting and publishing data regarding the animal facility and its activities, and generating reports as required by the supervisor;
• contributing to review the policies and guidelines for the use of animals in research;
• developing the teaching programs and contributing the teaching staff, students, faculty and other clients (external and internal) on animal research, health and related issues;
• performaning all administrative duties required for the above.

Requirements

You must have:

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree;
• 3 + years of work experience in the relevant field with core knowledge of animal health, especially small animals (e.g. rodents);
• preference will be given to candidates who have experience of working in an animal research laboratory, and possess knowledge of animal models of human diseases, national & international guidelines and regulations on animal research, and design of laboratory animal facilities.
